Business Partner Relations
Committee Ad-Hoc Members: Dan Arnsten (Affinity), Jack Caulk (MSC), Dan Morgan (Multiscope), Karen Scher (Affinity), & Mark Vitelli (NDS)
The Business Partner Relations Committee is responsible for recruiting and retaining business sponsors to support the PLAA. This committee creates the sponsorship levels for the business partners, coordinates the annual Business Partner Exhibit, meets with the Business Partner Advisory Council and plans other networking events.
Communications
The Communications Committee manages all communications for the PLAA; including the Web Site, ListServe, Newsletters, and Social Media (Twitter - @PittsburghALA). We are responsible for updating the chapter website (www.PLAA.com) as necessary and to add new features as needs change - technical skills are not a requirement as we work with StarChapter for our web site development. And we work with the Secretary-Elect, President-Elect and all other Committee Chairs with the posting of chapter events and notices needed to communicate with the group’s members. We also work to develop and enact a Communication Plan to facilitate the Board initiatives.
Community Service
The Community Service Committee works with other PLAA committees to identify local community organizations in need of funding or volunteering and subsequently implements projects that are in alignment with those needs. The Committee hopes to play a part in making local communities better places to live and to work.
Some examples of community service projects we have done are: collected and delivered blankets to local personal care homes, prepared bagged lunches for summer camp at Urban Impact, a local not profit-organization helping the residents of urban communities, and our annual Thanksgiving food drive.Compensation Survey
The Compensation Survey Committee compiles and issues a comprehensive compensation and benefits survey covering law firms and legal departments in the Pittsburgh area. The report is currently issued every other year. The goal of the Survey is to provide in-depth information to the local members on the economic market conditions.Diversity and Inclusion
This committee works with the Education committee and the Conference committee to identify speakers and develop programs including current topics in diversity and inclusion. Their goal is to advance and support diversity and inclusion in the association and in the legal industry.
Education
The Education Committee works to enhance the competence and professionalism of Chapter members by providing learning opportunities in the areas of competencies as defined by the Association of Legal Administrators. The Committee plans several education programs for the program year, as well as partnering with other associations (ILTA, PSMA, ARMA, etc.) for collaborative education sessions. Emphasis is placed on CLM-inspired education for members.
2025 Education Conference
The Education Conference committee is charged with planning and implementing our semi-annual education conference. Their duties include selecting the conference location, scheduling speakers, and planning social activities and networking events for the conference.
Membership Development
The Membership Development committee is responsible for promoting new membership by educating prospective members and the local legal community of the benefits of membership in ALA and PLAA. This committee also focuses on member retention and engagement, mentoring new members of the benefits of ALA and PLAA, managing the annual membership renewal process, distributing the monthly membership newsletter and working with ALA to identify new members. Love your PLAA membership benefits and want to pass along those good vibes to others, then this is the committee for you!
